Semi-Homemade Chocolate + Caramel Apples


Happy Halloween! It rained today in Milwaukee but luckily for me, I planned on making Chocolate and Caramel Apples today and not much else. I had never made these before, so I planned on taking the easy route. Semi-homemade is the way to go, unless you're a purist and absolutely want to make your own caramel. I bought ready-to-melt caramel bits, a bunch of granny smith apples, slivered almonds, chopped pecans, and 1 bag of chocolate chips.



Initially, I wanted to try something different by slicing the apples into thick slices and putting them on the sticks as pictured:




They looked amazing, until I placed them on the parchment paper and the caramel slowly started to landslide down the apples. The juice from the apples doesn't work enough for the caramel to stick and so it falls right off. Next time I attempt these again, I must find a solution. Possibly drying out the apples for a bit, or freezing them?

The chocolate covered slices came out great and were so good! I wish I had remembered to put almonds or pecans on these to make them look better.



I also dipped the apples in chocolate, let them dry in the fridge, and then dipped a second layer of caramel over the chocolate. These were impossible to make as the caramel just goops everywhere haha but they were good!
